The tour starts in front of Porta Nuova, near the Royal Palace (Piazza Indipendenza). We will cross the arch built originally in 1583 to celebrate the victory of Charles V on the Turkish armies. We will then meet in the beautiful Villa Bonanno, an exotic palm grove where you can admire the remains of an ancient Roman Villa dating back to between the end of the II and the beginning of the III century AD. A few meters away is the cathedral esplanade, where we will admire the unique architecture of the city's most important church. Continuing along the Cassaro, we will meet other churches of considerable interest, such as the church of the Santissimo Salvatore and the church of San Giuseppe dei Teatini. We will then reach the so-called Quattro Canti, or piazza Vigliena, the heart and center of the ancient city. A few meters away we will have the opportunity to enjoy the bright Piazza Pretoria (called Piazza della Vergogna) and the adjacent Piazza Bellini, overlooked by the churches of Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio (Martorana) and San Cataldo, which have been included on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites. Here our tour ends, after an excursion of over two thousand years!
