TOUR OF THEATERS
The tour begins in Piazza Ruggero Settimo, in front of the Politeama Garibaldi Theater. Inaugurated in 1874, the splendid theater stands on one of the most important and elegant squares of the city. The entrance is characterized by a triumphal arch surmounted by a bronze quadriga by the sculptor Mario Rutelli. From here we will move along Via Ruggero Settimo, to reach another smaller square, Piazza Giuseppe Verdi, on which stands one of the city's landmark monuments, the majestic Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele. Undisputed masterpiece of Giovan Battista Basile, is one of the largest and most important theaters in Europe. Going down the historic Via Maqueda, we arrive at the Quattro Canti, also known as the Teatro del Sole. In Piazza Bellini we can admire the ancient Bellini Theater, next to the church of Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio and the church of San Cataldo. We will then walk along Via Roma, an important road traced in the early twentieth century on which interesting buildings such as the Biondo Theater stand out. From there, we will cross the picturesque alleys of the Kalsa district to reach the Real Teatro Santa Cecilia, founded in 1693. Palermo has many other small and large theaters, but thanks to this tour we will not only have the opportunity to see the most important but also stroll through the historical streets of the city, among churches and palaces of considerable historical and cultural value.
